Proactive compliance is a cost-effective business practice. In addition to reducing the need for regulatory agency oversight and improving public relations, proactive compliance identifies opportunities to reduce costs and allows for better resource allocation. By combining a knowledge of environmental regulations and their implications to facility operations with a strong technical and engineering component, O’Brien & Gere's teams of scientists, regulatory specialists, Professional Engineers (PE), Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH), Certified Safety Professionals (CSP), and Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (CHMM) can help clients develop solid strategic approaches to compliance and due diligence issues.
Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation selected O’Brien & Gere to conduct a remedial investigation/ feasibility study in Wappingers Falls, NY. The project included observing current site conditions and evaluating potential migration pathways, evaluating potential site impacts to fish and wildlife, and evaluating surface water in Wappingers Creek and the on-site lagoon for potential impacts due to migration of contaminants via surface runoff or ground water seepage. O’Brien & Gere also evaluated the sediment of Wappingers Creek and the on-site lagoon for potential site impacts, the vertical and horizontal extent of the groundwater contamination, the potential for surface soil contamination due to past disposal practices and site flooding, and subsurface soil contamination. In addition, the Firm designed and implemented an interim remedial measure (IRM) following a thorough delineation of the former manufactured gas plant (MGP) area.
