Conserving Energy and Reducing GHG emissions: Oxo intermediates and derivatives are an essential ingredient in the production of high-quality coatings, lubricants, pharmaceutical and cosmetics products, flavorings, fragrances, printing inks and plastics. Treatment of the Oxo manufacturing process by-products through conventional means, however, such as low temperature flaring, represents a significant waste of energy and creates substantial air pollution.

OBG partnered with a leading chemical manufacturing client with a focused drive to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

OBG’s Focus on Solutions

Deliver a One-of-a-Kind, Customized Solution: OBG led the design, construction, and commissioning of a one-of-a-kind process recovery boiler (PRB) system to successfully meet the client’s goal.

The process recovery boiler (PRB) system was composed of three boilers that return over 250,000 pounds-per-hour of steam to the manufacturing process while destroying 99.99% of the total hydrocarbons in the waste stream.

A fully integrated selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system ultimately destroys 90% of the NOx from the PRB exhaust, resulting in a significant reduction in GHG emissions that has proven superior to conventional approaches.

Results that Matter

The entire project was undertaken while the facility remained in operation. To facilitate construction of the $35M project within an active central utility plant (CUP), OBG utilized 3-D laser scanning/post processing to generate a point cloud of existing conditions to support 3-D/4-D building information modeling (BIM) of the new process and determine how best to configure and erect the new equipment.
