The O'Brien & Gere History
Since the partnership of Earl F. O’Brien, William S. Gere, and Glenn D. Holmes in 1945, we have distinguished ourselves through strong client relationships, technology and innovation, and a passionate entrepreneurial spirit. Now, more than half a century later, O’Brien & Gere has evolved from a simple collaboration of three engineers focused on local water and wastewater projects, to one of the oldest and largest employee-owned engineering and project delivery companies in the nation.
We have changed considerably since 1945. In the 70s and 80s, O’Brien & Gere diversified its services to help clients address the complex challenges of environmental issues while improving productivity in an ever-increasing, competitive global marketplace. In the 90s, O’Brien & Gere recognized the benefits of a total, integrated project life cycle approach – from scientific services, design, engineering, and construction to operations and maintenance services. The firm established a remarkably strong base of Fortune 500 clients, major municipalities, federal agencies, and distinguished academic and medical institutions. The result is a company that provides 360-degree engineering and project delivery solutions.
While O’Brien & Gere continues to evolve, our philosophy has remained the same since day one: to conduct our business with absolute integrity, and to establish the safety, satisfaction, and dignity of our clients, employees, and the public, above all else. Ours is a company committed to excellence, evidenced by our long track record for innovation and client service. Our passion for ingenuity, coupled with our commitment to delivering consistently high-quality services, is the reason O’Brien & Gere, one of the oldest employee-owned engineering and project delivery companies, is thriving today at 65.
