Design-Build Services for the Solvent Generation System for Thermal Oxidizer Unit Testing Bristol-Myers Squibb, Barceloneta, PR
Services:
- Design
- Procurement
- Construction
- Start-up
Schedule: 20 Months
Budget: $625,000
Tasks:
- Designed, procured, constructed, and started up a solvent generation system to challenge the existing thermal oxidizer units (TOUs)
- Completed calculations to develop solvent loading scenarios and required quantities
- Provided on-site oversight of operation during pre-compliance testing and compliance testing
Project Highlights:
- TOUs challenged by worst-case operating scenarios, including maximum operating temperature of units, minimum fuel oil flow rate for flame stability, and heat load provided by solvents
- Installed recirculation pump to provide hydraulic mixing and transfer of solvent mixture to the heat exchanger
- Installed needle valve and rotameter as the control point to regulate the transfer of solvent to the heat exchange process and subsequently to the TOUs
- Installed shell and tube heat exchanger with helical turbulators to provide heat required to generate supersaturated solvent vapor
- Installed high pressure steam supply with double regulator assembly to control the steam to the energy required for solvent phase change
- Installed flash tank to remove condensed solvent
- Installed solvent vapor transfer piping with detonation arresters
- Installed N2 blanketing of flash tank and vapor transfer header
- Compared results from TOU testing to empirical data to verify loadings and operating conditions
