Catalytic Oxidation System Design Automotive Components Manufacturer, Illinois Services Services:
- Basis of Design
- Bid Specifications
- Design
- Safety
- Testing
Schedule: 3 Years
Budget: $230,000
Tasks:
- Prepared bid specifications for the catalytic oxidation unit
- Designed ancillary equipment, including ductwork, foundations, and electrical and mechanical systems
- Demonstrated the capture and destruction efficiency of the catalytic oxidation unit
- Submitted documents to comply with air permitting reporting requirements
- Evaluation of control alternatives
- Provided the ancillary design package, including new ductwork, foundation design, and electrical connections
Project Highlights:
- Assisted client in reducing coating-operation emissions of volatile organic compounds to comply with state regulations
- Prepared and submitted Variance Petition to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), which allowed the facility to continue to operate until a suitable emission control strategy could be identified and instituted
- Catalytic oxidizer was designed to reduce inlet VOC emissions by at least 95%
- Incorporated extensive safety precautions into the design of the PTEs, including vapor sensors, lower explosive limit and oxygen monitors, Lucite construction, and "fail-open" doors
- The results of the compliance test indicated that the catalytic oxidizer is operating at greater than 99% VOC destruction efficiency
- Face velocities across the natural draft openings of the PTEs were in excess of 200 ft/min during the compliance test, satisfying the requirements of a PTE, and allowing the facility to assume a capture efficiency of 100%
