Remedial Design
Pendleton, NY

Services:

  • Pre-Design Investigations
  • Site Survey
  • Wetland Delineation
  • Ground and Surface Water Sampling
  • Background Soil Sampling
  • Lake Sediment Profiling and Sampling
  • Treatability Testing
  • Geotechnical Tests
  • Liner Compatibility

Schedule: 1993 - Present

Budget: $1.1 Million

Tasks:
  • Dredging, stabilization, and placement on-site of contaminated lake sediments
  • Installed multi-layered cap incorporating a geomembrane (or technical equivalent)
  • Designed ground water collection system to maintain an inward hydraulic gradient
  • Designed grouted sheetpile wall to provide containment boundary for contaminated soils and assist ground water collection system in maintaining inward hydraulic gradient
  • Designed physical controls to control surface drainage and overflow
  • Designed monitoring system to monitor effectiveness of selected remedy
  • Prepared Construction Certification Report and Site Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Plan
  • Provided ground water monitoring services in accordance with the O&M Plan

Project Highlights:
  • Dewatered a 15-acre lake to excavate and stabilize sediments
  • Designed low permeability cap to contain 66,000 cy of material
  • Lateral expansion of low permeability cap enabled client to avoid excavation of soils and waste materials
  • Created new wetlands to replace those impacted during remediation
  • Met all Consent Order dates for the remedial design
  • A field modification of the geometry of the ground water collection trench resulted in a reduction of approximately $100,000 of the bid price for the trench
  • Proposed alternate approach was estimated to cost approximately $4 million less than the estimate presented in the ROD for the NYSDEC-specified remedy
