University of Georgia, Athens, GA
Working with the architectural firm Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc. as a sub-consultant on this fast-track project, O’Brien & Gere provided the site engineering services necessary to complete the construction of this five-level, 820-space parking deck near the University of Georgia’s (UGA) Stegeman Coliseum and Carlton Street within the very tight schedule required. This project was designed and constructed within six months. O’Brien & Gere’s responsibilities on the project involved siting of the deck, relocation of major storm drainage lines, a new sewer service line to tie into the existing sewer at the south end of the site, and a new 8-inch water main required for the fire suppression system. Design documents had to be completed with only a four-month construction period allowed in order to have the deck open by the Fall Quarter and the first UGA football game. This impressive addition to the UGA Campus was completed on time and within budget.
