In the western New York village of Fredonia, O'Brien & Gere helped to double capacity, reduce energy costs, and cut back sludge yield at a wastewater treatment plant, which was reaching permitted capacity and operating at a deficit. The key to success was process optimization -- using existing components in different treatment methods. The results were continued plant performance, stable sewer rates, and energy cost savings of approximately $50,000 per year. In addition, the plant's increased capacity enabled a nearby food processor to expand its operations and increase employment, growing the village tax base.
