Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Treatment Pilot Study

Frito-Lay Inc., Kirkwood, NY

O’Brien & Gere was contracted to perform conceptual design and an on-site pilot study for membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment followed by nanofiltration for water reuse. O’Brien & Gere subcontracted ZENON for the pilot study and for assistance with equipment selection. Together, a preliminary basis of design and cost estimate for the full-scale treatment system has been developed.

The proposed system is designed to treat 550,000 – 825,000 gpd of wastewater from the facility, after being pre-treated in existing primary clarifiers.

Following the conceptual design and estimating phase for the full-scale system, O’Brien & Gere was awarded the pilot study to confirm system performance.
