Town of Cicero, NY
McKinley Road is a 1.4 mile long collector and local road that serves adjacent residential properties and developments. O’Brien & Gere was contracted to evaluate the existing 20 foot wide roadway pavement section, recommend a widened cross section and alignment, and design a drainage system to accommodate roadside storm water runoff and residential front yards. O’Brien & Gere also provided inspection services during construction to monitor quality of materials used and installation procedures.
Some constraints of the project design included utility poles on both sides of the road, several undergound utilities, and homes in close proximity to the existing edge of pavement. These constraints were balanced with the desire for a widened roadway, a closed pipe drainage system eliminating the use of swales, and access for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
