Case Study

Every Challenge Has a Backstory

To improve efficiency, a global producer of silicone technologies for the aerospace, healthcare, and automotive industries decided to consolidate operations and combine its U.S. production and research facilities in one South Carolina location. The selected new location aimed to replace two much smaller facilities in South Carolina and California with a larger footprint, and allow the company to expand its manufacturing workshops, increase laboratory capabilities, and improve its ability to leverage research and development (R&D).

OBG’s Focus on Solutions

The project involved renovating an existing 20-acre site and 226,000-square-foot building for the relocation and consolidation of the two existing plants. The project included relocating process and utility equipment, as well as an extensive upgrade of the existing manufacturing facility and design of new laboratories. PENTA (an OBG company) provided the full range of detailed engineering and design services, as well as construction administrative services, for the project.

Results that Matter

The $20 million plant successfully merged the client’s R&D work under one roof alongside manufacturing. The larger manufacturing workshops, laboratory facilities, and new equipment have improved technical synergies and accelerated product development. In addition, the new facility provides enhanced customer service capabilities, resulting in improved efficiencies and faster response times.
