OBG discusses emerging contaminants with Illinois Chamber of Commerce

Paul Hare, CPG, PG

OBG recently hosted a quarterly meeting of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC) on November 8, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. A partnership between the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Environmental Regulatory Group (IERG), the EAC works to broaden the business-stakeholder involvement in environmental legislative, regulatory, and policy discussion and development.

During the meeting, OBG’s Paul Hare joined Rick Cobb of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) to talk about emerging contaminants, focusing on two contaminants that have been making recent waves: 1,4-dioxane (14Dx) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Together, Paul and Rick shared information on the sources and fate/transport of these contaminants; a snapshot of the current state and federal regulatory climate; how New York has been addressing PFAS; and case studies from Illinois.
