SUNY/PPAA & NYAPPA 2016 Summer Conference
OBG energy experts recently presented during the SUNY/PPAA & NYAPPA 2016 Summer Conference, which took place on August 3, 2016 at Ithaca College in NY. The annual conference brings together all disciplines of facilities maintenance and planning for educational sessions on technology and emerging trends, operations and maintenance, and management.
Rob Neimeier and Larry Martin presented “CUNY LED Interior Lighting Program" with Arthur Fasolino, CUNY's Director of Energy & Facility Sustainability, and Paul Mercier, Design Principal of Lighting Design Innovations.
CUNY is currently engaged in a multi-year LED lighting program that assesses lighting layout and fixture types for given spaces, incorporates controls (including daylight harvesting, occupancy sensing, and variable lighting levels), and reduces energy consumption. In some cases, lighting fixture layouts have been completely changed from the pre-retrofit configuration. Spaces being addressed are classrooms, hallways, corridors, auditoriums, recreation facilities, and exterior lighting. The program is not a one for one replacement program, but rather one that focuses on the appropriate lighting based on function, where the end goal is achieving a more significant reduction in energy use, while also achieving a well-designed and illuminated space.
