Construction begins on Fountain Lake Restoration ProjectOBG News,
On March 31, 2017, NRT, an OBG Company (NRT), representatives joined Shell Rock River Watershed District (SRRWD), City of Albert Lea and Freeborn County, Minnesota officials, and the Albert Lea Lakes Foundation for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Fountain Lake restoration project’s confined disposal facility (CDF). A de-watering site in the dredging process of Fountain Lake, the CDF will be used once dredging begins to settle sediment and siphon off water that will be returned to the lake.
NRT has worked with SRRWD to improve water quality in Fountain Lake by leading implementation of the multi-year dredging program, which aims to remove approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of phosphorus-laden sediment. NRT has been providing project design, permitting, bidding, and construction services to support the project, as well as developed a constructible dredge plan to achieve project goals of improving water quality, aquatic habitat, and recreational opportunities for the community.
“This is a historic day for the Shell Rock River Watershed District and our community. Years of planning, designing, and engineering have gone into the construction of the CDF, and this marks the first visible sign of the Fountain Lake Restoration Project,” said Brett Behnke, Administrator for the Watershed District.
Construction of the CDF is expected to complete in August 2017, with dredging to begin fall 2017.
