OBG and Mohawk Valley EDGE recognized in ACEC NY 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards

Companies receive Gold award for innovative wetlands mitigation project at Marcy Nanocenter

NEW YORK — OBG has received an award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC NY) 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards. Each year, more than 60 member firms submit projects that are judged on a rigorous set of criteria, which include complexity, innovation, and value to society.

OBG received the Gold award in the Environmental category for supporting Mohawk Valley EDGE’s (EDGE) efforts to reduce time-to-market at the Marcy Nanocenter site in Marcy, NY—the state’s leading greenfield site for nano-related advanced manufacturing. OBG assisted EDGE in obtaining a critical federal wetland permit, which allowed for development of the site. As a requirement of the permit, OBG designed an innovative wetland creation plan, which used repurposed logs collected from the development area to create a weir and berm system that controls the rate and lateral spread of treated stormwater runoff through the sloped wetland creation area.

The project allowed EDGE to secure regulatory approval to develop a publicly-owned site for economic development and successfully market it as the state’s premier build-ready nanotechnology site. EDGE currently is engaged in a world-wide marketing effort to attract a semiconductor manufacturing facility to the site.

Winners were honored at the 50th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, which took place at the Hilton Midtown in New York City on April 1, 2017. A full list of winning projects is available on the ACEC NY website.
