OBG celebrates a renewed Onondaga Lake in Central New YorkOBG News,
OBG recently sponsored and participated in a popular summer rowing tradition that returned to Onondaga Lake on Saturday, July 16. The Onondaga Cup and LakeFest was attended by thousands of community members and included a full day of rowing, kayak, and paddleboard competitions, along with a shoreline festival featuring artisans, live music, food, and a 61-foot-tall rubber duck.
To help kick off the day’s activities, OBG CEO Jim Fox joined Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Onondaga County Executive Joanne Mahoney, and other Central New York figures in a canoe race.
Following the first race, two rowing teams from OBG came together with 14 other corporate-sponsored teams to compete in the Onondaga Cup. This regatta marked the culmination of a corporate rowing program organized by the Syracuse Chargers rowing club that encourages team building, health and wellness, networking, and community involvement at Central New York organizations.
Onondaga Lake Restoration
As the remediation and restoration of Onondaga lake nears completion, the event spotlighted the ongoing return of the lake as a community asset. On the shores of Onondaga Lake and along its tributaries, Honeywell, with the help of OBG, is improving 87 acres of wetlands and planting about 1.1 million plants, shrubs, and trees. To date, more than 50 acres of wetlands have been created or enhanced, and 170 species of fish, birds, and other wildlife have already returned to restored habitat near the lake.
